This is an exciting time in our school’s development. We are looking for an ambitious and highly skilled leader to drive excellence in English across Key Stages 3 to Post-16. The Role

As Director of English, you will:

  • Provide inspirational and strategic leadership across the English department
  • Drive outstanding outcomes for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and Post-16
  • Lead curriculum development, innovation and quality assurance in teaching and learning
  • Use data effectively to raise attainment and accelerate student progress
  • Develop and mentor staff through high-quality professional development and coaching
  • Ensure a culture of collaboration, high expectations and continuous improvement
  • Play a key role in whole-school development and contribute to the wider school community

Successful candidates will:

  • Embody and role model our core values of integrity, empathy and fortitude
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status with a relevant degree and postgraduate teaching qualification
  • Have proven experience of successful middle or senior leadership in English
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of raising achievement and leading improvement
  • Have experience teaching across multiple phases, including GCSE and post-16
  • Be a strategic thinker with the ability to lead change effectively
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills

GEMS Wellington International School, a mixed private school for children aged 3-18, is situated in the Al Sufouh area of Dubai and is owned and run by GEMS Education. Student numbers are over 2,800, around half of whom are British. The school was established in 2005 and offers the National Curriculum of England from Foundation Stage to Year 11 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, courses and careers programme in Years 12 and 13. It also offers opportunities for students to excel in leadership, sport, creative and performing arts. The extensive amenities available to the students at GEMS Wellington International School include a full range of sports facilities, multiple science laboratories, an astronomy observatory, a recording studio and an underground music floor. All GEMS teachers have access to the GEMS Professional Development programme and over 150 events and workshops each year to help keep their teaching practices cutting-edge.
