The School Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to students with disabilities or developmental delays. This role involves assessing students' needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic interventions to improve their functional skills and participation in school activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Assessment:
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations to identify students' strengths and weaknesses.
Assess students' fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, and cognitive skills.
Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development:
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education programs.
Set realistic and measurable goals for each student.
Monitor student progress and modify treatment plans as needed.
Therapeutic Interventions:
Provide occupational therapy interventions to address students' specific needs, including sensory integration, motor skills development, and adaptive skills training.
Use a variety of therapeutic techniques and strategies, such as sensory activities, play therapy, and assistive technology.
Consultation and Collaboration:
Consult with teachers and parents to provide guidance on strategies to support students' learning and development.
Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech-language pathologists and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive services to students.
Professional Development:
Stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in occupational therapy.
Attend professional conferences and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
Licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
Experience working with children with disabilities or developmental delays.
Knowledge of educational theories and practices.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
