Student Counsellor for AY 2024-2025

GEMS FirstPoint School is looking for a Student Counsellor for AY 2024-2025.

The School Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive support services to students, including academic, career, social, and emotional counseling. The counselor works collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create a safe and supportive school environment that promotes student success and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

1. Counseling and Support:

• Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic, career, social, and emotional issues.
• Develop and implement effective counseling programs that support student development.
• Address and resolve student conflicts and crises, providing immediate support as needed.

2. Academic Guidance:

• Assist students in setting academic goals and developing plans to achieve them.
• Monitor student academic progress and provide interventions as necessary.
• Collaborate with teachers to identify and support students with academic challenges.

3. Career Counseling:

• Provide career exploration and planning services to students.
• Assist students in understanding the relationship between school and future career opportunities.
• Organize and facilitate career workshops, job shadowing, and college visits.

4. Social and Emotional Development:

• Promote a positive school climate through programs and activities that enhance students' social and emotional skills.
• Implement and oversee anti-bullying and conflict resolution programs.
• Provide support for students dealing with personal or family issues, referring them to external resources when necessary.

5. Collaboration and Consultation:

• Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student needs.
• Participate in school committees and contribute to the development of school policies.
• Conduct parent workshops and provide resources to help parents support their child's development.

6. Record Keeping and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
• Prepare and submit reports on student progress, behavior, and counseling activities.
• Ensure compliance with all school policies and legal requirements related to student counseling.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Knowledge of counseling theories and practices.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Proficiency in using counseling and educational software.

GEMS Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students and staff. A UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police check is a pre-requisite for all appointments.

Bachelors/ Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
