About the Role

Job Purpose: 

GEMS Operations Director is responsible for managing pre operations and procurement-related activities as well as current major service contracts for existing GEMS Schools, Corporate office, new Schools and all Managed schools.

Key Accountabilities:

- Develop and execute supply chain strategies for each significant commodity group to optimize the total cost of goods and services including warehousing costs whilst maintaining the desired quality level and ensuring 100% in time delivery

- Develop policies and procedures for the operation of procurement activities, negotiate major contracts and coordinate purchasing activities with the various business units and stakeholders

- Coordinate the achievement of cost savings through vendor selections and review, developing favorable contract agreements and resolving delivery and billing problems

- Ensure delivery of core supply chain metrics in terms of cost, quality and service

- Minimize company risk and maintains compliance in area of environment, health, and safety (EH&S) that maybe country/region specific

- Identify best sources of supply that provide strategic benefit in cost, quality, responsiveness or continuity. Coordinate/aggregate global sourcing requirements and identify the most suitable supply approach ensuring delivery against product and service level agreements and cost objectives

- Implement best practice in areas such as strategic sourcing, vendor selection, negotiation, value chain analysis, requisition to pay process and supply consolidation and rationalization

- Proactively and regularly monitor spend by commodity group and by vendor and identify opportunities & strategies for cost reduction; including implementation of global procurement deals

- Provide leadership to the Procurement team and increase the level of procurement technical skills and commercial understanding of the team

- Work closely with all existing Schools, Corporate department heads, New Schools project team and managed schools procurement teams to ensure best value procurement practice across the group

- Ensure appropriate analysis and negotiation is undertaken for the procurement of all significant goods and services

- Ensure business units compliance with Purchasing Policies and Procedures and related company policies including the Code of Ethics

- Review compliance of all service agreements - terms and conditions and ensure contract compliance with client company policies and best Commercial value/practice

- Monitor and report trends in global supply dynamics

- Determine and Develop timeline and processes for completion of each stage of Pre-Operation process for projects

- Ensure that projects satisfy local authority regulations and meet all necessary compliances for schools to operate

- Ensure that project timelines and planning are met and all identified tasks are completed on schedule for projects

- Assist in the development of logistical and supplies start up packages for each model of GEMS school

- Track and monitor each project and ensure that these projects develop and are implemented according to all parameters; budgets, delivery targets and quality

- Develop a monitoring and feedback process for each project

- Report at regular intervals to the Pre-Operations team required

- Escalate project or organizational risks as required to minimize/mitigate disruption to project delivery

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

- MBA and a relevant Bachelor’s degree (in Commerce, Management, Supply Chain or equivalent) from an internationally accredited University
- Strong analytical, planning, business acumen and problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- International Business experience required
- High energy leader who is creative, objective and have impeccable integrity
- Experience in designing and improving business process to increase operational efficiency
- Experience in implementation of enabling technologies e.g. Oracle, Microsoft, etc. to realize process and cost efficiencies
- Solid judgment in making decisions and taking action that builds business momentum
- Ability to work at an elevated pace with efficiency and precision and effectively prioritizing in a high-pressure environment
- Excellent contract management skills
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, with emphasis on interpersonal and consensus building
- Ability to compile complex data into understandable formats
- Ability to deal with all vendors, suppliers and contractors and effectively negotiate deals
- Excellent negotiating skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective long-term relationships with suppliers
