About the Role

The purpose of this role is to assist Central Tax Team (‘CTT’) in all Group tax matters (direct & indirect) covering all countries covered under GEMS Education, such as: 

  • Corporate Tax and International tax matters;
  • Economic Substance Reporting (‘ESR’);
  • Country-by-County Reporting (‘CbCR’);
  • Transfer Pricing;
  • UAE VAT;
  • Compliance monitoring; and
  • Tax audits and assessments

Key Accountabilities:

Assist the CTT with tax matters for the group across all geographies:

  • Prepare and submit corporate tax and international tax filing and maintain documentation with the relevant support from external tax advisors (CTR, Transfer Pricing, CbCR, and ESR).
  • Assist CTT in compliance with VAT filings, data review, addressing business team or FTA queries for UAE entities.
  • Coordinate with the internal finance teams and tax advisors on the ongoing tax assignments of the Group (withholding tax, VAT, corporate tax).
  • Monitor tax compliance for all geographies covered in GEMS MENASA region. Ensure tax compliance trackers are regularly updated across the Group.
  • Minimize tax penalties and support local teams in handling tax assessments.
  • Provide inputs to the IT, finance, and accounting teams in relation to tax change implementation in the system and FS.
  • Monitor changes in the tax environment in order to understand their impact on the group.
  • Assist CTT in internal and external audits and provide necessary information and documentation.
  • Assist CTT with ad hoc tasks, information gathering, policy update, training, and reporting.

Qualifications Experience & Skills:

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent
  • CPA/CA or equivalent essential
  • Overall 4-5 years of experience, including 1-2 years working in Big 4s.
  • Experience working in the tax function in the Middle East for a large MNC group (preferable)
  • Microsoft Excel proficient
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills while interacting with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work independently, adjust priorities, and work in a continuously changing environment.
