We are seeking for a dedicated and experienced Director of Science, Chemistry specialist who can join us immediately. This leadership role requires a strong commitment to pastoral care, academic success, and fostering a positive school culture. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the academic and personal development of staff and learners.
Qualification:
- Proven experience in a senior role leading the whole Science department.
- Preferably with A level experience teaching Chemistry in a British curriculum school.
- Knowledge in Data Management.
- A certified professional teaching qualification such as B.Ed., PGCE, PGDE or equivalent.
(Distance or open university degrees are not accepted unless MOE equivalency is obtained). HPL (High Performance Learning) experience and Permanent Teaching License will be an added advantage. All certificates should be duly attested.
Job Description:
- Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Work closely with the Head of Secondary and Deputy Head / Assistant Head Teacher to establish effective and globally relevant practices of learning & teaching.
- Implement the schools vision for quality in the school linked with the GEMS expectation of excellent education.
- Integrate GEMS core values into the planning and delivery of all curricular and co-curricular lessons and activities.
- Develop minimum learning outcomes for all subjects and set benchmarks to raise standards.
- Help staff develop professionally and meet time based school improvement targets.
- Conduct needs based lesson observations / lesson appraisal and provide focused effective feedback in order to meet school targets.
- Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers.
Establish procedures and time frames to provide students with academic, personal, social, emotional and psychological counseling.
Work with new students to ensure a smooth adjustment to the school.
Provide students with guidance on admission to higher education institutions.
Organize and process recommendations for students to higher education institutions and provide assistance with application procedures.
Provide opportunities for students to take tests for admission to higher education institutions.
Maintain and update a list of colleges and universities which have accepted students from the school.
Liaise with the Librarian to provide and update careers and college material
In conjunction with senior management team organize and coordinate careers session with representatives from a range of professions.
Establish procedures for securing external assistance for students with personal problems and emotional needs.
Work with the senior management team to develop experiences and activities which are beneficial for students’ holistic development, and which promote responsibility, leadership skills, cooperation and other personal and social skills.
Maintain student records on progress, achievements, activities and interests.
Establish proactive guidelines and procedures to deal with bullying.
Establish and administer appropriate testing programmes to evaluate student aptitude and achievement.
Establish systems to notify parents promptly about problems in class, with school work or behavioral issues.

Qualifications: FS/ KG - Bachelors in Arts along with a 2 year Montessori / 2 years - ECCE Example - BA + ECCE (2 yrs) or BA + B.Ed (None of the above degrees must be through distance, correspondence or from an open university) Primary / Middle - Bachelors in Arts / Science along with Bachelors in Education, both degrees in the same teaching subject Example - BA + B.Ed or B.Sc + B.Ed (None of the above degrees must be through distance, correspondence or from an open university) Senior School - Bachelors & Masters in Arts or Science along with Bachelors in Education, degrees should be in the same teaching subject Example - BA & MA + B.Ed or B.Sc & M.Sc + B.Ed (None of the above degrees must be through distance, correspondence or from an open university) Specialist subjects teachers such as Dance, Music, Physical Education, Special Education Needs, Art, ICT etc will require a specialist qualification in the teaching subject. 2 years of school teaching experience required for all of the above.

Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.
Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (eg Ministry of Education officials).
Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials and experiences.
Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.
Assist in the planning and organising of school events and functions (eg inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc).
Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information
