Job Purpose
- Assist teachers in their work as directed. Teaching assistants will be asked to assist with a range of tasks on a regular basis.
- Have the authority to supervise small groups of children or whole classes of children in an emergency situation, or when specifically requested to do so by the Principal or Senior Management Team. Teaching assistants are fully insured to supervise groups of children inside and outside the classrooms

Key Accountabilities
- Assist the teacher with reading related activities.
- Run small group activities inside or outside the classroom as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare and tidy up classroom activities. Mount work displays and assist with preparation of displays.
- Photocopy documents and assist with preparation of worksheets etc as requested.
- Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.
- Responsible for covering class for short periods of time in emergency situations.
- Tidy and rearrange stock cupboards and distribute new stock.
- Take children to toilet and change/clean them when necessary.
- Develop familiarity with relevant aspects of the curriculum eg literacy, numeracy and Phonetics.
- Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Ensure tact, confidentiality and discretion at all times. Maintain confidential information and ensure information pertaining to students and the school is not shared or discussed without the approval of the teacher or senior management team.

Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans, etc.Page 2 of 5▪ Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.▪ Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teachingstrategies that meet student needs and abilities e.g. late-entering students, ESL, low academic ability, gifted and talented etc.▪ Set and mark work. Assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students and use assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student’s needs.▪ Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.▪ Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.▪ Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (e.g. Ministry of Education officials).▪ Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).▪ Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.▪ Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programs in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.▪ Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.▪ Work in line with the ethos of the school, school vision and school mission.▪ Ensure safe environment for students.▪ Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.▪ Assist in the planning and organizing of school events and functions (e.g. inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc.).▪ Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information▪ Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.▪ Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.▪ Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers/supervisors.
