Assistant Head of Primary School

Key responsibilities include the smooth operation of the lower or upper Primary sections of the school in relation to all stakeholders. The AHOP assists the Head of Primary in any tasks related to school-wide or primary school leadership.  

School-Wide Leadership

Contribute to ELT (Executive Leadership Team) discussion and collaborations, including the development of policies and the school-wide strategy/plan. Model desired attributes of professional conduct. Assist in the development of a positive staff and community culture. Raise ideas and/or concerns to the Head of Primary. Contributing member responsible for compliance to all government and fiscal responsibilities.

Operational Leadership:

Class schedules creation and oversight. Class list allocation in collaboration with grade leaders and inclusion team. Support admissions team with assessments. Conduct teacher appraisals as part of PELT. Oversee community events. Run assigned parent workshops on a variety of topics. Cover/sub placement for teachers and TAs. Parent relations/including tours for new families. Orientation for new staff. Collaborate with facilities team on events, planning and operations across the primary school. Work closely with the ICT team to ensure systems and communications are streamlined.

Pastoral  Leadership

Contribute to well-being initiatives for the school community. Support teachers and TAs as a mentor on personal or professional matters. Support teachers, SEN and TAs with student behavioral concerns. Support students and new families with the onboarding process. Meet with at-risk students and parents as needed.

Pedagogical Leadership

Coach Curriculum Coordinators. Lead on PD as required. Lead Research and Design groups (R&D) as needed. Collaborate as a member of PALT and Academic Board. Oversee and contribute to the analysis of school-wide or external assessment data (includes data dialogues and triangulation of internal assessment data).

Communication

Meet regularly with groups (Students of Concern meetings, Student wellbeing groups, Student leadership, Media, Library, counseling) to report and advocate at PELT. Ensure communication from PELT is distributed to teams in an appropriate way. Co-publish the school newsletter. Provide regular workshops and information sessions for parents. Recommend training for teachers and staff. Contribute to facilitating meetings at the PALT and MLT level.

Resource management

Make recommendations for the purchase of suitable resources (programs, resources or classroom resources).

• Masters Degree or equivalent in related education and/or leadership 
• Proven effectiveness as a teacher in the IB Primary Years Programme
• Excellent understanding of and experience in curriculum design, implementation, management and evaluation
• Passion for excellence and innovation in education
• Proven ability to develop effective management structures and
• build, lead and develop high-performance teams.
• Proven ability to establish and sustain strong relationships with parents, students, teaching and support staff, alumni and other stakeholders.
• Passionate about providing high-quality education to children and their families.
• Experience in successfully managing school operations 
• Experience in living and working internationally, ideally in the UAE
• Embraces an appreciation for inclusive practices and positive approaches to behavior support along with the safeguarding and welfare of all children and young people
