GEMS School Management (GSM) is seeking an exceptional and highly accomplished Associate Principal to join our growing international education team. 

This is not a traditional school leadership role. It is a unique opportunity for a senior leader to work across multiple schools and regions, supporting the onboarding, transformation and performance improvement of schools within the GSM network. 

As a key member of the GSM School Improvement Team, the successful candidate will be deployed into schools for short, medium and long-term assignments, working alongside school leaders, owners, boards and stakeholders to accelerate improvement, strengthen educational quality and embed the GSM educational model. 

The Associate Principal will play a critical role in GSM's school onboarding strategy, acting as a trusted leader capable of rapidly assessing school performance, implementing improvement plans, developing leadership capacity and ensuring the successful adoption of GSM systems, standards and educational practices.

The Role 

The Associate Principal will be deployed strategically across the GSM portfolio to lead, support and accelerate school improvement initiatives. 

Assignments may include: 

  • Leading newly onboarded GSM schools during critical transition periods. 

  • Supporting school leaders to implement GSM educational strategy and standards. 

  • Undertaking rapid school diagnostic reviews and improvement assessments. 

  • Developing and delivering school improvement plans. 

  • Supporting inspection readiness and accreditation processes. 

  • Building leadership capability. 

  • Establishing strong systems for teaching, learning, safeguarding and student achievement. 

  • Supporting organisational restructuring, staffing reviews and operational improvement. 

  • Leading specific strategic projects across the GSM network. 

  • Acting as Interim Principal or Acting School Leader when required. 

The role requires substantial international travel and periods of working directly within schools across multiple countries. 

Key Responsibilities 

School Leadership & Improvement 

  • Lead schools through periods of onboarding, transition and improvement. 

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of educational provision and school performance. 

  • Develop and implement measurable school improvement strategies. 

  • Ensure schools successfully adopt GSM standards, frameworks and systems. 

  • Drive improvements in teaching quality, student outcomes and leadership effectiveness. 

  • Establish a culture of accountability, excellence and continuous improvement. 

Strategic Deployment 

  • Serve as a GSM representative within partner schools across multiple regions. 

  • Support school owners, governing bodies and leadership teams. 

  • Act as interim senior leadership capacity where required. 

  • Provide expert educational advice and recommendations to GSM and school stakeholders. 

  • Ensure successful implementation of GSM educational priorities. 

Quality Assurance & Performance Management 

  • Conduct quality reviews and monitoring visits. 

  • Analyse school performance data and identify improvement priorities. 

  • Monitor implementation of action plans and improvement milestones. 

  • Support schools with inspection preparation and post-inspection action planning. 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Build strong relationships with school leadership teams, owners and governing bodies. 

  • Represent GSM professionally with ministries, regulators and external partners. 

  • Communicate effectively across diverse cultural and international contexts. 

  • Produce high-quality reports and strategic recommendations. 

Skills Description

The successful candidate will demonstrate: 

Experience 

  • Substantial senior leadership experience within high-performing schools. 

  • Experience as a Principal, Head of School, Executive Principal, Vice Principal or equivalent senior leadership position. 

  • Proven record of leading measurable school improvement. 

  • Experience of inspection preparation and school accreditation. 

  • Experience working across diverse educational settings. 

  • Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning. 

  • Experience leading teams through change and organisational development. 

  • Experience managing multiple priorities and complex stakeholder relationships. 

Desirable Experience 

  • International school leadership experience. 

  • Experience working across multiple curricula (British, American, IB or National systems). 

  • School turnaround or transformation experience. 

  • Experience working with school groups, management organisations or education consultancies. 

  • Experience operating within multicultural environments.
