Job Description
GEMS Cambridge International School, Abu Dhabi is seeking to appoint a high-performing Physical Education Teacher to join our team from August 2026. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting health, fitness, and wellbeing, and will have experience delivering high-quality PE lessons across whole school. You will inspire students to develop physical competence, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to active living through engaging and inclusive practices. A commitment to student development, collaboration, and high standards of teaching and learning is essential.
Overall Function and Purpose:
To teach and educate students in Physical Education according to the guidelines provided by the National Curriculum Framework, under the overall guidance of the competent education authority.
To plan, deliver, and assess engaging PE lessons that support students’ physical development, health awareness, and overall wellbeing, ensuring each student achieves their full potential. Contribute actively to the wider school community, including extracurricular sports provision.
Main Responsibilities:
• Deliver the required PE curriculum, demonstrating accurate and up-to-date subject knowledge, including sports, fitness, and health education.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-organised environment for all physical activities, adhering to health and safety standards at all times.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality PE lessons that cater to students of varying abilities and promote active participation.
• Teach according to the educational needs, abilities, and physical capabilities of individual students and groups.
• Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes towards health and wellbeing.
• Assess, record, and report on students’ progress, attainment, effort, and participation in physical activities.
• Use data and assessment to inform practice and support student progress in both practical and theoretical components.
• Set high expectations for all students, encouraging personal improvement, resilience, and confidence.
• Contribute to the school development plan, particularly in areas related to sport, wellbeing, and student engagement.
• Organise, lead, and support extracurricular sports activities, teams, fixtures, and school competitions.
• Participate in inter-school events, tournaments, and sports days, promoting school spirit and participation.
• Ensure the safe use, storage, and maintenance of sports equipment and facilities.
• Maintain high standards of discipline, behaviour, and safeguarding during all physical activities and school events.
• Promote the general progress and wellbeing of students, acting as a role model for healthy and active lifestyles.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders regarding student progress and participation.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the PE curriculum and whole-school initiatives related to health and wellbeing.
• Participate in CPD and remain up to date with best practices in PE, coaching, and student wellbeing.
• Support school events, assemblies, and initiatives as required.
• Participate in duties and responsibilities allocated by the Head of Department/Head of School.
• Contribute to the organisation and delivery of school-wide events and activities.
Skills
Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field, with a recognized teaching qualification/license.
• Strong subject knowledge in PE, sports, and health education.
• Experience teaching PE across whole school.
• Ability to coach and lead a variety of sports and physical activities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues.
• Commitment to promoting student wellbeing, inclusion, and participation.
• Minimum of two years’ teaching experience in a relevant subject/age group.
• Competency in using ICT to support teaching, learning, and assessment.
