Job Description
- Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging and challenging lessons aligned with the British Curriculum and relevant Key Stage requirements.
- Develop students' knowledge, understanding and application of key concepts within Social Studies and related Humanities/Social Science disciplines.
- Use enquiry-based approaches to encourage students to question, investigate, analyse, evaluate and draw evidence-based conclusions.
- Develop students' ability to interpret and evaluate primary and secondary sources, data, maps, statistics, media and other forms of evidence.
- Promote critical thinking and the ability to understand and evaluate different social, cultural, political, economic and historical perspectives.
- Provide opportunities for discussion, debate, research, independent learning and extended written responses.
- Differentiate teaching and learning effectively to meet the needs of all students, including high-attaining students, SEND and EAL learners.
- Use appropriate digital technologies and a range of resources to enhance learning.
- Establish high expectations for academic achievement, behaviour and student engagement.
- Deliver the curriculum in accordance with the school's British Curriculum framework, schemes of work and departmental expectations.
- Ensure learning is appropriately sequenced across Key Stage 3 and supports progression towards GCSE/IGCSE specifications where applicable.
- Support cross-curricular learning and opportunities for students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations.
- Contribute to extracurricular and enrichment activities such as debates, Model United Nations, academic competitions, educational visits and student-led projects.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Humanities/Social Studies department and across the school.
- Follow GEMS policies at all times.
Skills Description
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, History, Geography, Sociology, Political Science,Humanities.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Relevant experience teaching at secondary level within a British Curriculum or comparable international curriculum.
- Strong knowledge of Key Stage 3 curriculum requirements and relevant GCSE/IGCSE content where applicable.
